How to Remove Mortgage from Encumbrance Certificate

Introduction

Once you pay off your home loan, the mortgage entry does not automatically disappear from your Encumbrance Certificate. You must legally register a "Deed of Receipt" or "Release Deed" provided by your bank at the Sub-Registrar Office to clear the encumbrance and secure a clean title.
